The Raven Haired Girl (Short story from First issue of 5Stories)

She stares at me. Rather, her stare bores through me and gives me shivers. This girl is hardly old enough to be on the adult psychiatric unit. Yet, here she is standing about fifteen feet away, just staring. There is a surreal evil emanating from her and I feel her staring into my soul. Possibly it is her appearance. She wears only black clothing. Raven hair, dark eyes, which could be from the medication they are giving her but there is something indefinable about this particular patient. I have never felt anything like this before.

The mnemonic image shocked his brain like a jolt of electricity. Nonetheless, the more stupefying part of the image was not the symbol, which Ernest was yet to fathom the reason behind barring it on his chest. In the left corner of the photograph, a pale series of numbers was printed. 18/2/1945.

Shweta was relieved when they reached the hotel; she tried to make conversation with Raman but was very conscious of his rank in the company and didn’t want to say anything that would be unfitting. She didn’t know him much and wasn’t sure whether she was being judged.

She quickly got her room key from the reception and turned towards him, “Thanks Raman for the drive. I’m going to my room and relax now.”

“Sure, I’ll see you tomorrow then. My room number is 521 in case you need something.”

Shweta nodded and walked towards the elevator. Incidentally her room was also on the fifth floor.

5Stories had a great launch!!

She wears only black clothing. Raven hair, dark eyes, which could be from the medication they are giving her but there is something indefinable about this particular patient. I have never felt anything like this before. It is unmistakable. She remains without moving for five minutes or so before leaving. I don’t know her name. I only know she frightens me and I didn’t know why.
